In my 30+ years in health and wellness, I have been a personal fitness trainer, award winning competitive bodybuilder, licensed massage therapist and bodywork specialist and nutritional coach. Inflammation, pain and fatigue has nagged me since I was a little girl. I was sick a lot, in and out of Dr.’s offices and hospitals, taking antibiotic 3-8 times a year. At 15, my adrenals took a hit and I contracted mono, otherwise known as Epstein Barr Virus. My body was completely wiped out and I was in bed for 3 weeks. In addition, I grew up on the Standard American Diet, (SAD). I craved sugar and had tremendously itchy skin, that was worse at night. The sleep deprivation left me feeling tired and moody. The chronic exhaustion led to major brain fog.
In college, while preparing for a body building contest, I had an accident in the gym. I herniated 2 lumbar discs which cause decades of chronic pain and inflammation. At the same time, the low-fat, no fat diet contributed to the symptoms, consuming empty carbs, gluten and sugar, not realizing the detriment it made to my brain, joints and the cause of chronic inflammation.
This downward spiral to health continued for over 20 years, feeling like I was 110 years old. Stiff, puffy, chronic pain, headaches that would last for days, puffy eyes, swollen joints, lacking sleep, eating constantly, craving carbs, sugar and alcohol, I noticed my already poor memory was getting worse.
I honestly didn’t know how sick I was. I just thought is was part of ‘getting old’. All of these symptoms and conditions multiplied and accumulated, and then, I finally crashed.
In July 2015, I collapsed in bed with the worse migraine I had ever had, extreme exhaustion, pain and brain fog. And I stayed there for 3 weeks. The diagnoses revealed, I had a lot of health issues including :
- Adrenal burnout
- Auto immune disease (psoriasis)
- Blood sugar issues
- Extremely low immunity
- Gluten intolerance
- Sugar intolerance
- I thought I was dying. Never did I think, or was aware that years of progressively poor nutrition habits and lifestyle choices, led to physical and mental disorders, including:
- mood swings
- memory and cognitive impairments
- inflammation conditions
- concentration problems
- chronic stress
- fatigue and
- joint pain
My body was shutting down. Back to the Doctors…appointment after appointment the diagnosis and all they wanted to do was write prescriptions: antibiotics, steroids and antidepressants. I didn’t like that idea. I knew the body has an innate intelligence to heal itself when given the chance. So I started searching. I needed to find a way to detoxify my body and give it an opportunity to rest, reset, rejuvenate and recover.
I researched and followed holistic, nutritional, healing protocols. Realizing food can be a source of nutrition and building up our bodies or tearing it down. We have two choices with every single thing we put in our mouth, on our skin and ingest in our body. We are made up of over 72 trillion cells, all that are alive and thrive on what we feed them. It is up to us to decide whether we feed them so they can live, multiply and divide or mutate to disease. No one wants to intentionally poison them self, but marketing and commercialism have made it really confusing.
That is where I come in as your Personal Integrative Nutrition Health Coach. I am happy to be here today to share with you what I have learned and help you reach your highest and best health, one meal at a time.
